The Gender Perspective

Our proposed lecture approaches the topic Knowledge Communication Cooperation from a twofold perspective. Our primary aim is to foster postdoc researchers by offering a platform that encourages interaction, communication, cooperation–the most fruitful environment to exchange ideas and views on research. Likewise we wish to refl ect on the implications that to gain knowledge, to communicate for the sake of cooperation imply. We therefore specifi cally target postdoctoral researchers.
The basis for this project plan rises out of the urgent necessity for postdocs to network, to promote novel ideas transcending disciplinary barriers, and to establish an
academic status as well as a research community. Furthermore, participating postdocs and their projects gain visibility and benefi t from opportunities for public
outreach activities.
The possibility to exchange ideas, discuss projects and challenge hypotheses is a founding pillar of scientific advancement and success in every academic discipline. Due to the progressive specialization of academic research, postdocs operating within different disciplinary realms have little specifi c or purposeful opportunity neither to
meet, exchange and debate nor to become visible, perform or practice didactic skills autonomously. Over time, a lack of such opportunities stifl es the academic growth
potential of young researchers. Moreover, since postdocs are crucial contributors to the research force of the UZH, this may lead to a general decrease in the quality of academic research output.
To prevent erosion of interdisciplinary communication and to promote academic cooperation, we propose the present lecture series on the topic to be held on a fortnightly basis. Postdoctoral researchers alternating with four invited keynote speakers will deliver a 30-45 minute lecture on their individual perception of the pivotal notions of knowledge, communication and cooperation and their interaction, with the primary aim to elucidate their application and understanding across the spectrum of disciplines.
