Science Trail: Plant Communication

Donnerstag, 26. Februar 2015, 17:30 Uhr

Plants as sessile beings need to interpret and communicate with their surroundings to establish successful development strategies. Among the others, plants can perceive far-red light (700-900 nm), invisible to humans, reflected by leaves and absorbed by water. By the red/far-red amounts they quantify, plants can spot photosynthetic competitors in their area and find the best path to light.
At the next Science Trail Dr. Lorenzo Borghi shows us via light filtering how plants see the far-red environment and will introduce us to newly characterized ways of plant communication.

meeting point: at the botanical Garden in front of the Institute of Plant Biology at Zollikerstrasse 107, 8008 Zurich.

After the Science Trail all participants are invited to an apéro at the beautiful villa at the botanical garden.
