Seeing events through a language lens: Cross-linguistic influences in event cognition

Freitag, 2. März 2018, 10:15 Uhr bis 11:45 Uhr

Research in (psycho-)linguistics reports cross-linguistic differences in the ways in which everyday situations and actions are described. The question is, do speakers of different languages also see the events happening around them differently? In this talk, I will present cross-linguistic studies on motion events (e.g., walking to the bus stop) and change of state events (e.g., peeling an orange), shedding light on the conditions under which we find effects of language on event perception and memory.
